Dispute Appointment Service

The Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb) Zambia Branch offers a robust and neutral service for the appointment of qualified arbitrators. Where an arbitration agreement names the Chairperson of the Branch as the appointing authority, parties may formalize a request following the procedure below.

Submission Requirements

To ensure a timely appointment process, please provide a comprehensive application comprising the following:

  • Formal Request Letter: Addressed to the Chairperson, CIArb Zambia Branch, formally requesting the appointment of an arbitrator.
  • Arbitration Agreement: A copy of the contract containing the dispute resolution clause.
  • Dispute Summary: Any relevant documentation or brief background information pertaining to the nature of the dispute.
  • Evidence of Deadlock: Documentation demonstrating that the parties have attempted to resolve the matter or have failed to agree on a sole arbitrator/tribunal within the requisite timeframe.
  • Completed Request Form: Ensure all fields in the [Official Appointment Request Form] are accurately filled.
  • Proof of Payment: A copy of the deposit slip or electronic funds transfer confirmation for the K3,000 Appointment Fee.

Process Overview

Upon receipt of a complete application and verification of the appointment fee, the Secretariat will process the request. The Chairperson, with the support of the Appointments Sub-committee, will then exercise their power of appointment, ensuring the nominee is independent, impartial, and possesses the requisite expertise for the specific dispute.
